Click here now if you would like to print off your own PDF 'Measuring Tape' and '5 Step Sizing Guide' for DickyBow Brand Tuxedo packages (see below for other brands).
IMPORTANT: You MUST check the scale of the measuring tape using a Euro coin after printing - if the coin does not fit the outline on the top right of the measuring tape page your printer settings need to be adjusted - see instructions on page one of the PDF.
Remember, once the scale is checked the DickyBow measuring tape IS ACCURATE - measuring over clothing will cause an error in your results. If you take your time and approach these simple steps methodically - our products will fit.
Very Important! The above PDF guide pertains to DickyBow Tuxedo brands only. If you are ordering one of our Premium Tuxedo packages - click on either of the following names: Ben Sherman or Daniel Hechter and then on the 'Measure Twice Order Once' banner half way down the ordering page. This will bring up a pop-up box with their particular suit sizes. Only use the below chart and PDF '5 Step Sizing Guide' for DickyBow Brand Tuxedo packages (although make sure you read it to have an overview of the techniques involved in measuring!)
The guide contains all the information below on handy printed A4 pages (it even has areas to write down your sizes after measuring). Please ensure you read page one of the document for the PDF printing instructions. All you will then need is a scissors, a Euro coin, some sticky tape and a few minutes to go through the simple measuring steps to ensure a perfect fit!
Measure twice, order once and always default to the next biggest size if you are unsure, or between sizes. Measure as close as you can to bare skin - adjust your clothing to allow this.
Measure around the upper back (over the shoulder blades) and across your chest at the fullest part (under your arms, not over them). Choose the size closest, or slightly bigger, than the following sizes: 36", 38", 40", 42", 44", 46" or 48". So, if you measure 39" - choose a 40" chest.
There are three jacket length options, 'Short', 'Regular' and 'Long'. 'Regular' is our standard length jacket and sleeves. The height of the person it is generally suitabale for is in brackets after each size (for accuracy you should measure):
- 'Regular' is our standard length jacket and sleeves (For 5 ft 8 " to 6ft 1")
- 'Short' has a 1" shorter jacket and sleeves, than 'Regular' (For 5 ft 8 " & less)
- 'Long' has a 1" longer jacket and sleeves, than 'Regular' (For 6 ft 1" & over)
The following chart lists accurate 'Sleeve' and 'Centre Back' lengths for each chest size in each jacket length (Short, Regular & Long).
For example, a '40" Regular Jacket' will have a 'Jacket Sleeve Length' of 25½" and a 'Jacket Centre Back' length of 31½" (see below).

This measurement is very important, so please take your time with it. Measure your 'Jacket Sleeve Length'. To do this, keep you arm by your side and measure from your arm & shoulder socket down to where you want your cuff-line to finish by your wrist.
Next, find your chest size on the chart above. From that size, read down the column and the figure closest to your measured arm length will tell you whether it's a 'Short', 'Regular' or 'Long' jacket you need. For example, a man with a '40" Chest Size' and a '25½" Jacket Sleeve Length' will order a '40" Regular' jacket. As always, if unsure, go for a slightly bigger size than smaller.
On the same chart, check the 'Centre Back Length' which is under the 'Jacket Sleeve Length'. Using your tape, measure this length from the centre of your neck (by the shirt collar-line) all the way down your back. Where the tape ends is where the back of the jacket, for that cut, will end. So, a '40" Regular' jacket will have a 'Centre Back Length' of 31½".
Measure the area on your waist where you wear your trousers. This should be your natural waistline for formal trousers, however, your final choice will be for personal comfort. If your thighs are generous and feel tight in dress pants, it may be better to order the next waist size up.
We have sizes have 28" - 42" in two inch steps available. For example, if you measure 29" - you will order a 30" trouser waist.
The 'Inside Leg' measurements for each 'Trouser Waist Size' are listed in the chart below.

Measure from the crotch (where inner leg meets inner hip) to where the trouser is normally worn on your shoe. The tape should touch the shoe and fold up a small bit. Next, find your 'Trouser Waist Size' on the chart above. From that size, read down the column and the figure closest to your measured 'Inside Leg' length will tell you whether it's a 'Short', 'Regular' or 'Long' pants you need. Again, it is better to get a slightly longer pants, than shorter pants, if between sizes.
We have a choice of three inside leg lengths: 29½” 'Short', 31½” 'Regular' and 33½” 'Long'. We also stock an unhemmed pants, it's length can be custom hemmed up to 36" long. (Note: It is supplied for the customer to hem).
Measure around the middle of your neck (back to front) and order depending on how loose you require the collar; you may want to take the next half size up. We have sizes 15" to 19" available, most in 1/2" steps.
Take your time, if you measure accurately - our products should fit. Check twice before ordering and always go to the next biggest size if you are unsure, or between sizes. We urge you not to guess or use past clothing purchases as a guide for this purchase.
